5.  1820 Census Index and Digital Images (online at Ancestry.com):  Philip is not found in Trigg Co., KY, and I checked every page.  Philip's son-in-law, John WHARTON, is in Trigg County.  The only SMITHs in Trigg Co., KY, were Andrew (Img 5 of 19, p. 5A, 011101-00021-0-200  no slaves) and Hardy (Img 16 of 19, p. 12B, 400010-00010-0-100, no slaves).  Of the two, Philip could be living with Andrew, but one wonders why Philip was not then made head-of-household.

Moses Thompson... married Miss Clarissa Smith, a sensible, practical, energetic and economical and most worthy woman, a sister of John Wharton and Jonathan and Firman Smith, and this marriage proved a most happy one...
Obviously, the author did not distinguish between being a sister (to Jonathan and Furman SMITH) and a sister-in-law (to John WHARTON).  The odd thing here is the suggestion that Firman is her brother.  In the 1820 census, we find
