5.  1850 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #59 of 74):  1st District, Trigg Co., KY, p. 319A, 426/427, enumerated 12 Sep 1850, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1850 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
Eleanor Smith 60 F   Farmer  90 Unknown
Irvin W Smith 24 M   Farmer 103 Kentucky
Firman A Smith 16 M   Farmer   same
Hardy W Smith  6 M       Illinois
John H Smith  4 M       same
Eleanor is much too old to be the mother of Hardy and John, so they must be grandsons.  Eleanor is rather old to be the mother of Firman, and given the nine-year gap between Irvin and Firman, I wonder if Firman, too, may be a grandson.  Living next door to son, Isaac G. SMITH (æ 31, b. KY).

We do not expect to find Hardy listed on the tax rolls until after his marriage in 1811; and, as expected, he first appears in 1812.  In 1812, Hardy was listed next to Abraham SMITH; both were taxed on just one horse and neither was taxed for themselves (i.e., both were under age).  I don't know why Hardiman was skipped in 1813, but it is not that unusual for someone to be skipped, for one reason or another.
