Mathias SLYH
Mary DRILL
WARNING:  Something isn't right here.  Given the age gap between Mathias and Mary, we would immediately suspect he had an earlier wife.  Yet, in the 1810 census, he has only two children, both born after his marriage to Mary in 1797, so perhaps he did marry late.  However, Mathias is a widower in the 1810 census, so unless he divorced Mary DRILL, her 1816 death date is incorrect.  Was 1816 a typo or misreading of 1806?  Her death in 1806 would make sense.  As for Mathias's parents, it appears the question is whether he was the son or grandson of Joh. Friedrich SCHLEICH.

These data indicate:
No. & Sex Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 9 or under 1800-1810 = Mathias Jr. (b. 1800)
1 male 10-15 1794-1800 = Jacob (b. 1798)
1 male 45 or over in or bef. 1765 = Mathias (b. 1765)
Where is Eva?  As the youngest child (æ 4-5), is she living with other kin?  Listed next to Henry SLEIGH

1 white male 9 or under 1810-1820 = Son B
1 white male 10-15 1804-1810
2 white males 19-25* 1794-1801

1 white female 26-44 1775-1794 = Wife-2?
1 male free colored 45 or over in or bef. 1775 = ?
*In the 1820 Census, the third column is age class 16-18 and the fourth column is age class 16-25; therefore, any individual in column three is duplicated in column four.  By subtracting the number in column three from the number in column four, you can create an age class "19-25."
Listed five lines from son, Mathias SLYH, Jr

5.  1830 Census Index and Digital Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #7 of 10; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
1830 OH Franklin Co. Clinton Twp. p. 5 Matthias Sly 400 111 001 - 100 111 000
These data indicate:
No. & Sex  Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred

=

1 male 15-19 1810-1815 = Son B
1 male 20-29 1800-1810
1 male 30-39 1790-1800 = son Jacob (b. 1798)
1 male 60-69 1760-1770 = Mathias (b. 1765)

1 female 30-39 1790-1800 = Mathias's Wife-2?
It appears Mathias has several of his children, with their spouses and children, living with him.  The only other SLY/etc. in Franklin County is Henry SLY in Prairie Township.
