Marriage:
Wife:  Nancy FORREST
Birth:  1788/9, NC
Death:  aft. 1850
Occupation:  homemaker
Father:  William FORREST (1761-1843)
Mother:  Nancy SPIVEY (c1765-1843)
Children :
— born in NC:
  1.  (Son A) SIMMONS, b. 1810-20
  2.  (Son B) SIMMONS, b. 1810-20
  3.  (Son C) SIMMONS, b. 1810-20 — possibly Henry SIMMONS, b. 1817-20, NC
  4.  (Daughter A) SIMMONS, b. 1810-20
  5.  (Daughter B) SIMMONS, b. 1810-20
  6.  (Daughter C) SIMMONS, b. 1810-20
  7.  (Daughter D) SIMMONS, b. 1810-20

— born in Greene Co., NC:
  8.  (Son D) SIMMONS, b. 1820-25
  9.  (Son E) SIMMONS, b. 1820-25
10.  (Daughter E) SIMMONS, b. 1820-25

14.  Jesse SIMMONS, b. 1829/30
15.  Zelota SIMMONS, b. 1829/30

Fifteen children in 20 years is pretty astounding.  I wonder if Nancy was prone to twinning.  It does appear Jesse and Zelota may have been twins.

Others:
Grandchild(?):  Mary SIMMONS, b. 1839/40, NC
Daughter-in-law(?):  Eaney? (__?__) SIMMONS, b. 1810-20

2.  1810 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  there are no SIMMONS'es in Greene or Pitt Co., NC, but it doesn't appear James was married at this point (he had no children born before 1810), so we would not expect to find him enumerated in 1810.

6.  1850 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #6 of 81):  Greene Co., NC, Roll M432_632, p. 216B, 51/51, enumerated 22 Jul 1850, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1850 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
James Simmons 61 M   Farmer 1000 NC
Nancy     " 61 F       "
John A    " 23 M       "
Zelota?   " 20 F       "
Jessee    " 20 M       "
Mary      " 24 F       "
Mary      " 10 F       "
If the elder Mary was their daughter, she should have been listed before John.  Nancy is too old to be the younger Mary's daughter.  One scenario would make the elder Mary the unwed mother of the younger Mary, which would then account for the elder Mary being listed after the other children, even though she is our subjects' daughter.   James is the only SIMONS/SIMMONS household in Greene County.  The only SIMMONS household in Pitt County is Henry SIMMONS

7.  1860 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  not found.  There are no SIMMONS/SIMONS households in Greene Co., NC.  The only SIMMONS/SIMONS households in Pitt Co., NC, are John A. SIMMONS and Henry SIMMONS
