2.  1820 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  not found, unless he's the John SHEALEY (000100-00100-0-100) in Edgefield Co., SC, which seems entirely possible considering our subject named a son John William.

3.  1830 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #53-54 of 196; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
1830 SC Edgefield Co. Roll M19-172 p. 154 Ln. 13 William Sheley 110 010 - 120 001 no slaves
These data indicate:
No. & Sex Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 4 or under 1825-1830 = Son B
1 male 5-9 1820-1825 = Son A
1 male 20-29 1800-1810 = William
1 female 4 or under 1825-1830 = Daughter C
2 females 5-9 1820-1825 = Daughter B
= Daughter A
1 female 30-39 1790-1800 = Wife
Some sources shoe William as born ca. 1800, and I'm inclined to agree.  Either that or his first wife was a widow with children, and the ones born before 1825 are hers from her prior marriage.  Listed five lines from Lydia SNELGROVE's father, Carey SNELGROVE.
