William SEVERS
Ms. __?__
Catherine PECK
WARNING:  this family group sheet is very shakely.  There is little documentation supporting it.
Husband:  William SEVERS / SEAVERS / SEAVER
Birth:  1752/3 or, more likely, 1760-70, VA
Death:  25 Aug 1852, MO — presumably in Nodoway Co., MO
Occupation:  farmer

William is said to be Johann Wilhelm SIEBERT, b. 9 Feb 1750/1 in Metzebach, Hesse, Germany, but the one census records argue against both the birthdate and birthplace.  If anyone has the evidence supporting that the two are the same man, please share.

Marriage-1:  1770s/80s
Wife-1:  Ms. __?__

There is no proof William had an earlier wife, but neither is there proof that he didn't, and a first marriage over the age of 40 is almost unheard of.

Marriage-2:  14 Oct 1793, Montgomery Co., VA
Wife-2:  Catherine PECK
Birth:  ca. 1774
Death:  aft. 1830
Father:  George PECK
Mother:  Catharine KOEHLER
Children with Wife-1:
-
Children with Catherine PECK:
1.  Mary "Polly" SEVERS, b. 1795; d. 1856, Anderson Co., TN; m. William LAMAR (1770-1831)
2.  John SEVERS, b. 15 Dec 1798, TN
3.  Daniel H. SEVERS, b. 1802; d. 1875, AR; m1. Nancy __?__; m2. 1868, Phillips Co., AR, Sarah J. PARHAM
4.  Jacob Peck SEVERS, b. 1809, Knox Co., TN; d. 1880, Breckinridge Co., KY; m. 12 May 1833, Nelson Co., KY, Mary Elizabeth HURLEY (1814-1891)

Some sources give this son for our subject, but others say the connection is unproven.
William SEVERS (Jr.), b. 1796/7, TN — settled Newton Co., MO, which is nowhere near Nodoway Co., MO

Sources:

1.  Marriage Records:

2.  1790 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  not found, but the 1790 Virginia census was lost and Tennessee did not become a state until 1792.

3.  1800 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  not found, but the 1800 Virginia and Tennessee censuses were lost.  There is a William SEIBERT in Somerset Co., PA, but our subjects were at least in Virginia, if not Tennessee, by 1800.

4.  1810 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  not found, but the 1810 Tennessee census was lost, unless he's the William SEVERS in Mercer Co., KY.

5.  1820 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  not found, but the censuses of 22 of Tennessee's 48 counties were lost.  (The William SEVER in Georgia is much too young to be our subject.)

6.  1830 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #12 of 55; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
1830 TN Anderson Co. Roll 175 p. 175 Ln. 6 Wm Severs Sen 112 000 001 - 221 001 100 no slaves
These data indicate:
No. & Sex  Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 4 or under 1825-1830
1 male 5-9 1820-1825 =
2 males 10-14 1815-1820
1 male 60-69 1760-1770 = William (b. 1752/3?)
2 females 4 or under 1825-1830 =
2 females 5-9 1820-1825
1 female 10-14 1815-1820 =
1 female 30-39 1790-1800
1 female 40-49 1780-1790
Either William is tabulated in the wrong column or there is age inflation in the 1850 census.  Also, either Catherine is fibbing about her age or William has remarried to a younger woman.  Where's Jacob?  He supposedly hasn't married yet.  Listed one line above James SEVERS (Ln. 7, 0001-1001), who is three lines above George SEVERS (Ln. 10, 110001-10001), who is seven lines above John SEVERS, who is ten lines above William SEVERS.

7.  1840 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  not found, but the index for Tennessee is very incomplete.  I did a page-by-page search of Anderson Co., TN, and while there were many SIEBERs, I did not find William, but parts of some pages are torn away.  William Jr. is in Newton Co., MO.

8.  1850 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #17 of 49):  District No. 64, Nodaway Co., MO, Roll M432_408, p. 379A, 110/112, enumerated 30 Oct 185v, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1850 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
John Seavers 52 M   Farmer   Va
[John's wife and children]
William Seavers 97 M   Farmer   Va
It seems likely that, for William, age inflation is taking place here.
