There was a scandal surrounding the divorce of Lewis and Rachel and her subsequent marriage to Andrew Jackson.  Rachel ran off with Andrew and married him, without being divorced from Lewis, who then filed for divorce on the grounds of adultery.  After the divorce became final, Andrew and Rachel had a second wedding ceremony, but the matter dogged Andrew for the remainder of his political career.  The U.S. Supreme Court declared, posthumously, that Andrew and Rachel were never legally married.

Incidentally, I have some problems with the tale as being told in the secondary sources online, the ones that say that Lewis married Hannah after his very public divorce from Rachel in 1793.  The county marriage records show that Lewis married Hannah in 1792, so… it looks like Lewis was a bigamist, too!

Robards, Lewis Donelson, Rachel  1 Mar 1785 Lincoln Co.
Robards, Lewis Winn, Hannah W. 29 Dec 1792 Jefferson Co.
These are bond or licenses dates; the actual wedding ceremony would have been held a few days (rarely weeks) later.
