William REA
Hannah BERRYHILL |
WARNING: Some secondary sources show our subjects as the parents of the Sanford RAY (b. 1824/5 in SC) who married Rachel CORBIN. In the 1850 census, this Sanford RAY is living in Cherokee [now Pickens] Co., GA, with his parents, William H. RAY & Jane [VENCEY?], both of whom were born in South Carolina. So, even if you postulate that our subject remarried after the death of Hannah, we would expect him to show up in the 1850 census as born in North Carolina, which the husband of Jane is not — nor are his parents (see 1880 census showing his parents were born in SC, too). In other words, there's no evidence that either Sanford or his parents were ever in North CarolinaI see no logical reason to equate these two men, especially when what evidence we have argues against these two William's being the same man. If you have evidence to the contrary, please share. |
Husband: William REA
Birth: ca. 1790/1 |
Marriage: 23 Mar 1814, Mecklenburg Co., NC
I've based their birth years on the fact that the average male marries first at the age of 23 and the average female at the age of 19. Obviously, these dates may be incorrect, especially if this is a second marriage for either of them. |
