Some of the children are said to have been born in "Middlesex, Hanover Co., VA," but I have been unable to confirm that such a place exists.

...many self-proclaimed “genealogists” have concluded that the “original” Thomas Mims (at least the first occurrence of that surname officially recorded as having immigrated to this country)... is from Wales. If one bothers to research records (what little there are) during the time that Thomas sailed to North America, three things become reasonably apparent:
(1) There is no record of an occurrence of the surname MIMS/MIMMS in Wales,
(2) There is ample record of that surname in England (for the most part spelled "MIMMS"), and
(3) The ship that originally set sail from England (Portsmouth, if I recall correctly) for America made a stop in Wales to board and discharge passengers (and cargo) during that stop. Some (most, in fact) American debarkation records from the ship’s manifest list that ship as having sailed from Wales – which, in fact, it did.
