1. Marriage Record: 2. 1790 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com): not found. There is a Stophel MILLER in Lancaster Co., PA — too old to be our subject — who appears to be the one who shows up in Highland Co., OH, in 1820. 3. Census Index: U.S. Selected Counties, 1800 (Broderbund CD-312): not found. There was no 1800 census in Ohio because it was not yet a state. Where available tax lists are substituted on the CD. There is no Stophel/etc. MILLER found, anywhere, nor any "S. MILLER" in Ohio. There are two unknown MILLERs in Ohio: one in Washington Co. in 1800 and one in Hamilton Co. in 1806. 4. 1810 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com): not found. The 1810 census of Ohio was lost (except for Washington Co.). There is only one Stophel/Stofel MILLER indexed on this CD and he is in Montgomery Co., MD. I don't believe he is our subject because he has no children and the woman living with him is in the next older age class. It's likely our subject is in Ohio, and tax rolls could reveal him — thankfully, he isn't named John! 5. 1820 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #3 of 3; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤
6. 1830 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #1 of 18; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤
7. 1840 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #19-20 of 24 — mis-indexed "Stephen"; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤
8. Census Index: U.S. Selected Counties, 1850 (Broderbund CD-317): not found, which is no surprise given their age, but neither do I find their son, Joseph and Daniel, at least not in Columbiana Co., OH. |
