WILLIAM HARDING MASHBURN, son of DAVID and SARAH (BROWN) MASHBURN, was born 13 April 1846 in Monroe Co., TN. He married RACHEL VIRGINIA JOHNSTON in 1867 in Madison Co., AR. She was born 4 Feb 1845 near Kingston, Madison Co., AR. She was the daughter of WILLIAM KING JOHNSTON and his wife DOROTHY. The JOHNSTONS lived in Lawrence Co., TN before moving to Arkansas.
WILLIAM HARDING MASHBURN was an ordained minister in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was ordained in 1877 by Washbington Presbytery. Although he preached in many churches throughout north west AR., he began his ministry at Campground Church and that is where he ended it.
He served in the Union forces during the Civil War. He, along with many ministers of the time, had little income from the churches which they served. He supplemented his income by farming. He died 27 January 1908 at Kingston and is buried at Upper Campground Cemetery. His wife was living with some of her children in Rocky, OK when she died 17 Jan 1929. She was buried beside her husband at Upper Campground and one can see both names carved on a single stone.
