The most knowledgable poster appears to be J. Dresser. In one of his messages, he states that, in the 1786 marriage bond of our subjects, William LYON of Culpeper Co., VA, gave his consent for Alexander to marry. Alexander would not have needed his father's consent to marry if he had been 21 years of age, therefore, Alexander could not have been born any earlier than 1765 (or 1764 if he hadn't yet had his birthday by October 7th).
