Elisha Lawrence was a wealthy patriot and a Colonel in the New Jersey Militia, gave nearly all his fortune to feed Washington, not repaid, he sold the rest of his holdings and moved to the frontier at Frankstown, Pennsylvania, and was a neighbor of Aaron Deveny.  Col. Elisha Lawrence married Elizabeth Drake, daughter of Fitz Randolph Drake, a lineal descendant of Capt. John Drake, brother and heir of Sir Francis Drake (1541-1596).  Fitz Randolph Drake was loyal to England and returned there when the Revolutionary War began.  Elisha and Elizabeth lived and are buried at Frankstown, near Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania.
Romantic tales about not being repaid for feeding Washington's troops should always be taken with a grain of salt, but there's no doubting Elisha served in the Revolution.

Descendants of Robert Lawrence:  Elisha Lawrence (online at lawrencefamhis.com; boldface added):
"Kenan Lawrence in his manuscript, History of the Lawrence Family... sumitted and published in Historic Virginia Families, volume VIII pages 84-86... The several Elisha Lawrences in New Jersey have been completely traced, and there is no connection between them and the Virginia-North Carolina Elisha Lawrences...
Because one of those Elisha's was once (acting?) Governor of Virginia, the incentive to fudge a connection has been high.
