Mary KITTS |
• Some sources claim our subject is the Mary KITTS who married
Thomas NORRIS, but an examination of the available evidence supports that
this
is a different Mary KITTS (c1798-c1818).
• At least one secondary source is claiming that two of Mary's children (viz., Nancy and Calvin) were fathered by John HUBBS (1800-1877), husband of Nancy HILL. This John HUBBS and his family are enumerated next to Mary KITTS in the 1840 Census and two households from her in the 1850 Census, so a liaison is certainly possible. • This same source also claims to have DNA proof that Nancy KITTS is John's daughter, but doesn't supply the evidence (viz., the test subjects' relevant paper genealogy and test results). Speaking here as a long-time project administrator for FamilyTreeDNA, I can say that proving such a relationship (i.e., the connection of a daughter to her father back five or more generations from the test subject) is difficult, at best. Given the importance of this connection to the descendants of Nancy and Calvin, I urge the person making this claim to share the evidence. • A far easier connection to support would be that of Calvin's patrilineal line. This John HUBBS is a proven Y-DNA patrilineal line descendant of Robert HUBBS, progenitor for the HUBBS project at FTDNA. If a male surnamed KITTS who is descended from Calvin KITTS on a patrilineal line could be found and Y-DNA tested, it would prove whether or not he could be a HUBBS. |
