Sarah's middle intial is "A" in the 1870 and 1900 censuses.  Given Eliza's age, it's unlikely that either John or James is her child, but especially James.  The fact that the enumerator did not use a ditto mark for their surnames (although Ancestry indexed them "Kenslar") strongly suggests they're either orphans or someone's illegitimate children, probably belonging to one or more of their unmarried daughters.  The fact that James appears in the household with Sarah after her marriage to James CARRICO suggests that he is her son, of an uncertain father.
