Abel W. KELLEY
Jemima KITTLE |
WARNING: Our subject is being given middle name, William, then becoming confused with William KELLEY (1777/8- ), who married a sister of our subject's wife. In some cases, people are making William the father of Abel, but clearly they are too close in age to be father and son. These appear to be brothers who married sisters. |

Children: |
Listed below are the children attributed to this couple in files at
WorldConnect. It is impossible for any one woman to produce children over
a span of 37 years. The average maximus span of fecundity for a woman
is 23 years (from age 20 to age 43). Absolom is too old to be their
son, and they'd only been married one month at the time Lovell was born.
While it's not impossible that Jemima was 8 months pregnant when she married,
it is impossible for her to have had a child in October of 1809 and another
in April of 1810, just seven months apart. Also, there does not appear
to be room for either of them in the 1820 census. It does not appear
that Absolom and Lovell are their children, as shown by many secondary
sources. These may be sons of William
KELLEY, who married in 1798, so could be their father.
. Absolom KELLEY, b. 1803; d. 29 Dec 1858

Eighteen children in 23 years is astounding (the average would be 12,
with some not surviving). By removing the two oldest children and
the one youngest child attributed to them, apparently incorrectly, we at
least have a normal span of fecundity for Jemima of 23 years. I find
myself wondering if she didn't have more than just one set of twins.
1. Ruth KELLEY, b. 10 Apr 1810; d. 7 Apr 1863

Jemima is too old to be his mother:
. Elias KELLY, b. 1840, (W)VA |
