2.  1840 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #65 of 100 — list was roughly alphabetized; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤
1840 NC Cabarrus Co. Roll 356 pp. 33A-33B Ln. 12 Huiei Eliza 100 000 - 200 00* no slaves 0000000
*Either a "1" was written over a "2," or a "2" was written over a "1."
These data indicate:
No. & Sex Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 4 or under 1835-1840 = Daniel (b. 1837/8)
2 females 4 or under 1835-1840 = Daughter
= Margaret (b. 1833/4)
1 or 2 female(s) 30-39 1800-1810 = Eliza (b. 1813/4)
= ?

If the 1850 census is correct, Eliza and Margaret are in the wrong age class, but the 1850 census is wrong about several ages, so I don't doubt this record is our subjects.

3.  1850 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #236 of 305):  Pontotoc Co., MS, Roll M432_380, p. 236, 1539/1539, enumerated 2 Nov 1850, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1850 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
Robert Stroob 33 M   Farmer   NC
Elizabeth  " 36 F       "
Margaret   " 16 F       "
Daniel     " 12 M       "
Matilda    "  9 F       "
Wilson     "  7 M       "
Scena      "  4 F       Miss
Louisa     "  2 F       "
In 1860, Matilda is 7 (and Wilson is 5), which makes Matilda clearly Robert's child, not John's.

John A Huie b 1805 married Eliza McClellan during 1834. Child: Margaret Elizabeth b before 1840. John died during 1840 in Cabarrus Co, North Carolina. Eliza later married Robert Strube (1816-1860) during 1843 and moved to Pontotoc Co, Mississippi.
Robert STRUBE was still living (with Eliza) in the 1880 census.  Robert & Eliza were married in 1841.
