Nimrod A. HORTON
Ms. __?__
Susannah WELLS
NOTICE:  Two patrilineal descendants of our subject are participating in the HORTON DNA Surname Project.  Anyone who suspects he descends from our subject on a direct male line can support that connection with a DNA test.  These two descendants are not a match for any other HORTONs in the HORTON Project.  They are, however, a good match with Group L of the ROSE DNA Surname Project.  You will not see any results displayed at the project web site, but I have displayed and discussed the data on a page at my web site.  It's looking very much like these HORTONs have an NPE in their line.  Given that these ROSEs first appear in the Northern Neck region of Virginia, it is probable that our subject came from there as well.  He is often given birthplace NC, but the fact is we don't know where he was born.
Husband:  Nimrod A. HORTON
Birth:  1771/2
Death:  23 Jan 1851, Spartanburg Co., SC
Occupation:  farmer
Y-DNA Haplogroup:  R-L21 (Group L at the RFA Project)

Some sources give our subject these parents, but both of them were born and deceased in New York State, so would be unlikely candidates, not to mention that Elsie was simply too young to be Nimrod's mother.
Father not:  George Washington HORTON (1741-1835)
Mother not:  Elsie SHOEMAKER (1760-1827)

Marriage-1:  ca. 1795
Wife-1:  Ms. __?__

The average age for a male at first marriage is 23, which would place the date of Nimrod's first marriage ca. 1795.

Marriage-2:  27 Nov 1803, Lincoln Co., NC
Wife-2:  Susannah / Susan WELLS
Birth:  1783/4, Orange Co., NC
Death:  1853, Spartanburg Co., SC
Occupation:  homemaker
Father:  Nathaniel / Nathan WELLS (1755-1817) of Orange Co., NC
Mother:  Esther WARD (1759-1817)
Child with Wife-1:
1.  George W. HORTON, b. 1801/2, SC
Either George's birthyear is off or Nimrod had a prior wife; the latter is very likely given the age difference between Nimrod and Susan.
Children with Susannah WELLS — born in Spartanburg Co., SC:
2.  Nimrod H. HORTON, b. 5 Feb 1806
3.  Nancy HORTON, b. 5 Feb 1806; d. 5 Jan 1889, Dallas, Paulding Co., GA; m. Nathaniel Jefferson PARIS (1804-1865)
