— born in (W)VA:
1. Mary HOPPER, b. ca. 1807; m. 27 May 1824, Franklin Co., OH, Thomas WILCOX (1803- ) 2. Solomon HOPPER, b. ca. 1808; m. 9 Dec 1833, Franklin Co., OH, Sarah Ann MICKEY (1812- ) 3. John HOPPER, b. 1809/10 {1850: 40, VA; 1860: 35, VA} — born in Franklin Co., OH
We know from the tax rolls that Edward was in Franklin Co. by 1810, so I have no explanation for John's birthplace — or age, for that matter — except that they moved in 1810. Note that John never married, never left home, and was never enumerated as having an occupation, so it seems likely that he had some kind of disability. Margaret may have been fibbing about her age in the census, but if born earlier, it raises a question about John's birthplace. |
