Samuel HOPKINS
Naomi __?__
Husband:  Samuel8 HOPKINS
Birth:  5 Apr 1789, Warren, Litchfield Co., CT
Father:  Benjamin7 HOPKINS (1763-1808) [Prince6, Stephen5, Judah4, Stephen3, Giles2, Stephen1, Mayflower passenger]
Mother:  Rebecca GOODRICH (1754- )
Marriage:
Wife:  Naomi __?__
Birth:  1786/7, MA
Occupation:  homemaker
Children:
?  Henry HOPKINS, b. 1807/8  {1850: 42, MA}
Marcia / Martha A. HOPKINS, b. 1815/6  {1850: 34, CT; 1860: 44, CT}
Sylvester Benjamin HOPKINS, b. 1818  {1850: 34, NY; 1860: 33, OH; 1870: 53, OH; 1880: 62, OH}
.  Miles HOPKINS, b. 1825/6 {1850: 24, NY}

Given the typical migration patterns, it's conceivable that Henry was born in MA, Martha in CT, and Sylvester in NY.  It is less conceiveable that Sylvester would have been born in OH.  On the other hand, there is a Prince HOPKINS in Ohio in the 1830 census.

4a.  1830 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  there is one Samuel HOPKINS in Litchfield Co., CT, none in Michigan, eleven in New York, three in Ohio, and two in Pennsylvania.  The one in Connecticut (000 100 100 - 010 000 100 100) is the right age to be Samuel, but he has too few sons.

4b.  Census Index:  U.S. Selected Counties, 1830 (Broderbund CD-315):
1831 Petition Michigan Territory Hopkins, S.
1834 Petition Monroe Co., MI Hopkins, S.V.
1834 Petition Michigan Territory Hopkins, Samuel
These are the only S./Samuel HOPKINSes in Michigan in this index.

These data indicate:

1 male 20-29 1810-1820 = Sylvester (b. 1818)

6a.  1850 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #2 of 5):  Town of Rutland, Barry Co., MI, p. 101B, 563/574, enumerated 5 Sep 1850, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1850 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
Samuel Hopkins 60 M   Farmer   Ct
Noma Hopkins 63 F       Mass
Henry Hopkins 42 M       Laborer
Samuel should be 61, not 60, but even so, Henry is almost too old to be Samuel's son, so he may be Samuel's brother.
