This William is said to be our subject's son, but his middle name does not jibe with the initial in the 1850 census.  I can't find either our subject's son or this individual in the 1860, 1870, or 1880 censuses.  I do find William B. HAMBY, widower, in the 1900 and 1910 censuses of Christian Co., KY.

2.  1850 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #87 of 137 — indexed w/middle initial "W."):  District No. 1, Christian Co., KY, Roll M432_196, p. 472B, 611/659, enumerated 18 Sep 1850, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1850 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):
Andrew M Hamby 23 M   Farmer 75 Ten
Charity Hamby 30 F       Ky
Wm J Hamby 6/12 M       "
William's middle initial is clearly "J."  Listed between Isaac HAMBY (æ 76, b. SC; wife Kesiah, æ 60, b. GA) and Jerry HAMBY (æ 83, b. NC).  Isaac is of an age to be Isaac's grandfather, but Kesiah is young enough to be his mother.  Jerry is probably short for Jeremiah, who is of an age to be Isaac's brother.

3.  1860 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #110 of 267):  Hopkinsville P.O., Christian Co., KY, Roll M653_362, p. 612, PN 110, 764/764, enumerated 12 Sep 1860, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1860 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):

K L Hamby  8 F         "
Ibba Hamby  7 F         "
J J Hamby  3 F         "
J A M Hamby 2m M         "
This enumerator's handwriting was ambiguous when it came to some isolated capital letters.  The indexer read the children as K.L., Abba, J.J., and J.A.M., but the "J's" could be "I's."  Can't find William.
