2.  1790 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com; Image #3 of 7 — list was roughly alphabetized; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤•
1790 NH Cheshire Co. Swanzey Roll M637_5 p. 122 Ln. III-2 John Grimes 1-1-4-0
These data indicate:
Gender and Type Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 free white males 16 or over in or bef. 1774 = John (b. 1766)
1 free white males 15 or under 1774-1790 = Son A
4 free white females all ages in or bef. 1790 = Tryphena (b. 1765)
= Lydia (b. 1785)
= Tryphena (b. 1788)
= Mary (HOLLON) RASEY (b. 1732)
We can't be certain the 4th woman is Tryphena's mother, but it's likely.  In 1800, Mary is living with Tryphena's brother, Pelatiah.

1820 NH Cheshire Co. Swanzey Roll M33_59 p. 422 Ln. 9 John Grimes 000001-12111-0-100
These data indicate:
No. & Sex  Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 45 or over in or bef. 1775 = John (b. 1766)
1 female 9 or under 1810-1820 = ?
2 females 10-15 1804-1810 = Ava (b. 1807)
= Mahala (b. 1804)
1 female 16-25 1794-1804 = ?
1 female 26-44 1775-1794 = ?
1 female 45 or over in or bef. 1775 = Tryphena (b. 1765)
1 person engaged in agriculture
Assuming the birthdate we have for Tryphena is correct, it's very unlikely she had a child born after 1810; and no secondary source lists one for her.  Listed one line below son, John GRIMES, Jr. (110010-00100-0-100).

6.  1830 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #7 of 28 — list was roughly alphabetized; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤•
1830 NH Cheshire Co. Swanzey Roll 74 p. 194 Ln. 23 John Grimes 000 000 001 - 001 000 001
These data indicate:
No. & Sex  Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 60-69 1760-1770 = John (b. 1766)
1 female 10-14 1815-1820 = ?
1 female 60-69 1760-1770 = Tryphena (b. 1765)
The young girl with them in 1830 appears still to be with them.  If she's the same girl, her age here makes it a certainty she is not Tryphena's daughter.  He is the only GRIMES in Swanzey.

7.  1840 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #7-8 of 26 — list was roughly alphabetized; extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤•

1 female 70-79 1760-1770 = Tryphena (b. 1765)
1 person employed in agriculture
John is the only GRIMES in Swanzey.

8.  1850 Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #31 of 51):  Swanzey, Cheshire Co., NH, Roll M432_428, p. 222A, 948/1104, enumerated 4 October 1850, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1850 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):¤•
Cyrene Johnson 49 M   Carpenter 600 Vt
Susan       " 48 F       NH
Josephine C "  5 F       NY
Tryphena Grimes 85 F       Conn
If Tryphena truely was born in Connecticut, then we need to rethink her parents' locations.
