Geographical Note:  the political geography of South Carolina is complex.  The state was divided into judicial districts in 1769.  Union County was formed in 1785 within the 96th Judicial District.  In 1800, the judicial districts were abolished and the counties were designated districts.  In 1868, the districts were re-designated counties.  In 1897, Cherokee County was formed from part of Union and two other counties.

This is the only GILLEY couple in Daviess County old enough for the wife to be Sarah.  In fact, given Sarah's age, it's unlikely the two youngest children are hers.

1850 U.S. Census Every-Name-Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com, Image #12 of 18):  Harrison Twp., Daviess Co., IN, Roll M432_140, p. 212A, 1766/1766, enumerated 30 Nov 1850, official enumeration date 1 Jun 1850 (extracted by Diana Gale Matthiesen):

Sarah     " 75 F       NC
Job       " 24 M       Ia
Adam R Stropes 14 M       "
William B  " 12 M       Va?
Given Sarah's age, the GILLEY boys are probably her grandsons, not her sons, especially as they do not appear in her household in 1840.  The STROPES boys are Sarah's grandsons.

Public Member Trees (online at Ancestry.com):  shows Robert as husband of Sarah, with Elizabeth their daughter, who married John JETT.
