I don't quite know what to make of Michael's baptismal record because, according to Engle (1896), Bindnagel's church is in North Londonderry Twp., which is (today) in Lebanon Co.  And Derry Twp. is still in Dauphin Co. (The two townships are adjacent, on either side of the county line.)

2.  Census Index:  U.S. Selected Counties, 1810 (Broderbund CD-313):  not found, as expected.

1 male 4 or under 1825-1830 = Jacob (b. 1828/9)
1 male 5-9 1820-1825 = Noah (b. 1821)

Is this record really of our subject?  John (b. 1824) is missing, and so are Sarah (b. 1826) and Daughter A (b. 1825-30).

Catherine " 55 F      "
John      " 26 M Farmer   Ohio
Jacob     " 21 M   "    "

Is John really their son?  He did not appear in the 1830 or 1840 censuses.  Is Mary their daughter or Jacob's wife?

9.  Michael Ely of Buffalo Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania: The Raymond M. Bell Anthology transcribed by Jeanne Walsh of Seward, NE, in April 1998.  Note that, mistakenly, all of Michael and Catherine (HEWITT) ELY's children are surnamed HEWITT.  This mistake was made by the transcriber, not by Raymond Bell, because Bell did not put surnames after the children's names in the original article.  This web page is not a transcription (not a direct quotation) of Bell's work, but a paraphrasing, so should not be called a "transcription" — for the very reason this case demonstates (viz., errors were introduced for which Bell is not responsible).
