The Polly DAVIS who married Thomas ADAMS has been assumed to be the daughter of
James
DAVIS & Hannah RAMSEY, but might she have been the widow of Clement
DAVIS?

Legend for numerical data:
A = White Males 21 or over; B = White Males 16-20 (this
column not used in 1809);
C = Blacks over 16; D = Total Blacks; E = Horses |
Abbreviations: LR = Little River;
SF = Sinking Fork of the Little River |
*The county was divided into just two districts:
from 1804 to 1806, into North and South Districts; and from 1807 to 1809,
into East and West Districts. |
The Sinking Fork of the Little River flows westward from central Christian
Co. through Trigg Co. where it once joined the Cumberland River (now dammed
into a lake). Clement disappears from the tax roll in 1809, and a
Polly DAVIS appears for the first (and only) time, but with just two horses,
a slave, and no land; however, widows are often given tax exemptions.
It will take more evidence than this to prove Clement's wife was Mary "Polly,"
but it appears likely.

Edward DAVIS also got a grant on the Sinking Fork of Little River (SFLR)
in 1799, and Azariah DAVIS got a grant on Little River (LR) in 1803.
These were the only DAVISes getting grants on the SFLR or LR during this
period.
