The Polly DAVIS who married Thomas ADAMS has been assumed to be the daughter of James DAVIS & Hannah RAMSEY, but might she have been the widow of Clement DAVIS?

Legend for numerical data:
A = White Males 21 or over; B = White Males 16-20 (this column not used in 1809);
C = Blacks over 16; D = Total Blacks; E = Horses
Abbreviations:  LR = Little River; SF = Sinking Fork of the Little River
*The county was divided into just two districts:  from 1804 to 1806, into North and South Districts; and from 1807 to 1809, into East and West Districts.
The Sinking Fork of the Little River flows westward from central Christian Co. through Trigg Co. where it once joined the Cumberland River (now dammed into a lake).  Clement disappears from the tax roll in 1809, and a Polly DAVIS appears for the first (and only) time, but with just two horses, a slave, and no land; however, widows are often given tax exemptions.  It will take more evidence than this to prove Clement's wife was Mary "Polly," but it appears likely.
