Ludwig CUPP
Johanne STROB
WARNING:  I think two Ludwig CUPPs are being mixed up here.  One was b. 1770 and married to Johanne; the other was born earlier and was married to Elizabeth.  The  question here is whether the Ludwig Cupp in the 1790 and 1800 censuses of Bedford/Somerset Co. was the one married to Johanne or the one married to Elizabeth — or whether they were the same man, who had two different wives (or whether Johanne and Elizabeth were one and the same person).
Husband:  Ludwig CUPP
Birth:  1770, Bedford [now Somerset] Co., PA
Birth:  12 Oct 1759, Northampton Co., PA
Death:  ca. 1822

He cannot have been born in 1770 and have had a son in 1777/8!

Marriage:  in or bef. 1778?
Wife:  Johanne STROB
Birth:  1755-74
Children:
  1.  (Son A) CUPP, b. 1774-90
  2.  (Son B) CUPP, b. 1774-90
  3.  (Son C) CUPP, b. 1774-90
  4.  (Daughter A) CUPP, b. bef. 1790
  5.  (Daughter B) CUPP, b. bef. 1790
  6.  (Daughter C) CUPP, b. 1790
  7.  Conrad / Coonrad CUPP (Sr.), b. 1793, Bedford [now Somerset] Co., PA
  8.  (Daughter D) CUPP, b. 1790-1800
  9.  (Daughter E) CUPP, b. 1790-1800
10.  (Daughter F) CUPP, b. 1790-1800
11.  (Daughter G) CUPP, b. 1790-1800

Sources (n.b., Somerset Co. was formed from Bedford Co. in 1795):

1.  Marriage Record:

2.  Census Index:  Colonial America, 1607-1789 (Broderbund CD-310):  not found, at least not under any name I recognize or can think to search on.

3.  Census Index:  U.S. Selected Counties, 1790 (Broderbund CD-311):
1790 Cap, Ludiwick 01-03-03-00-00 PA Bedford [now Somerset] Co. p. 25
These data indicate:
Gender and Type Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 free white male 16 or over in or bef. 1774 = Ludwig
3 free white males 15 or under 1774-1790 = Son A
= Son B
= Son C
3 free white females all ages in or bef. 1790 = Johanne
= Daughter A
= Daughter B

4.  Census Index:  U.S. Selected Counties, 1800 (Broderbund CD-312).  Please see my WARNING regarding use of this database (the numerical data have the genders switched).
1800 Cupp, Ludwig 12010-4301000 PA Somerset Co. p. 561
The data should read:
43010-12010-00
Which indicate:
No. & Sex  Age Class Therefore Born Individuals Inferred
1 male 9 or under 1790-1800 = Conrad (b. 1793)
2 males 10-15 1784-1790 = Son B or C
= Son A or B
1 male 26-44 1755-1774 = Ludwig (b. 1770)
4 females 9 or under 1790-1800 = Daughter G
= Daughter F
= Daughter E
= Daughter D
3 females 10-15 1784-1790 = Daughter C (b. 1790)
= Daughter B
= Daughter A
1 female 26-44 1755-1774 = Johanne
One of the sons (A, B, or C) appears to have died or left.  As for the daughters, this census can only be reconciled with the one in 1790 if Daughter C was born in 1790, but after the 1790 census — or, of course, if some of these individuals are not their children.

6.  1820 Census.

8.  Broderbund.  World Family Trees.  Vol. 4, Pedigree #2779.  Says Ludwig's sons are Conrad (1793-1870; m. Nancy STROB), Daniel, David, and John.
