Conrad CUPP
Elizabeth __?__
WARNING:  based on the censuses, it's hard to believe the family in 1850 is the same family as the one in 1860 because there are so many inconsistencies.  Then again, it's hard to believe they're not the same family based on the similarities.  For the moment, at least, I'm going to consider them one family, but I may be incorrect in doing so.  Note that Perry (1840), Fairfield (1850), and Hocking (1860) Cos. are adjacent, each with a common boundary with the other two; and the three townships, Jackson, Bern, and Green, respectively, are near the point where the three counties meet.  So while it may appear that our subject is making significant moves between censuses, he is, in fact, only moving relatively short distances.  The fact that Conrad appears as a "farm hand," not a farmer, in 1860 and has no real property valuation indicates he has lost the farm he had in 1850 and is now working for someone else, which could certainly account for the second move, because, otherwise, farmers don't typically move a lot.
