On the other hand, there are other reasons a man (or boy) might become indentured…

Given that Joseph calls our subject a "man," I'm assuming he was at least age 21 in 1766.

If servant man Peter Corban, shall get any person to discharge my bond to Thomas Smith and Emory Badclar for 17 lb. money, then he shall have liberty of choosing his master.
Wife Rebecca, who is known to be a lunatic or crazed person and quite incapable of managing her affairs and the education of my children, I appoint as ex. bro. John Councel, may educate and place children in such manner as I have enjooyned him. Appoint this as my last will.
