IV--Burgesses and Other Prominent Persons
Name: Gawin Corbin, Jr
of "Buckingham House," Middlesex county, eldest son of Hon. Richard Corbin, of "Laneville," was educated abroad and returned to Virginia about 1761.  In Nov., 1758, ex-Gov. Dinwiddie, in a letter from London to Col. Richard Corbin, says:
"Your son dined with me before he went to Cambridge.  He is truly a sober well-bred young gentleman."
After his return to Virginia, Corbin was a member of the house of burgesses for Middlesex and was appointed to the council in 1775, remaining a member until the end of the royal government.  The Virginia Gazette, March 6, 1775, says:
"We are informed that Gawin Corbin, Esq., of Middlesex, is appointed one of his Majesty's honorable Council of this colony, in the room of the late John Page deceased."

HON.GAWIN CORBIN, (21--1), of "Buckingham House," Middlesex Co., Va., the eldest son of Col. Richard and Elizabeth (Tayloe) Corbin, of "Lanesville," b. Dec. 29, 1738, at "Corbin Hall," Middlesex Co., Va.; d. July 10, 1779, at "Buckingham House." He was educated in England, and was a staunch and liberal supporter of the Episcopal Church, and a Vestryman. He was a Burgess from 1766 to 1769; and an influential member of the King's Council; he m. Nov. 17, 1762, his cousin, Joanna Tucker, dau. of Col. Robert and Joanna (Corbin) Tucker, of Norfolk Co., Va., and gr.-dau. of Hon. Robert and Frances (Courtney) Tucker, of Norfolk Co., Va., and of Col. Gawin and Martha (Bassett) Corbin, of "Peckaton," and "Lanesville." Issue: 
22--1. Elizabeth Tayloe, b. March 28, 1764; m. Jan. 4, 1782, her cousin, Major George Lee Turberville, of "Eppings Forest," Richmond Co., Va., son of Col. John and Martha (Corbin) Turberville, of "Hickory Hill," Westmoreland Co., Va., and had issue. (See Turberville lineage.)
22--2. Ann, b. Dec. 17, 1767; m. 5-26-1792 (first) William Currie Beale,son of Col. Thomas and Jane (Currie) Beale, of "Chestnut Hill,"Richmond Co., Va., and gr.-son of Thomas and Elizabeth (Tavener)Beale, of Chestnut Hill, and of Rev. David and Ann (Corbin) Currie,of Lancaster Co., Va.; (second) Capt. George Christopher, and had issue; untraced.
22--3. Felitia, b. Feb. 3, 1770; d. 12-30-1803; m. (first) 12-9-1791 Orrick Chilton, of "Currioman," Westmoreland Co., Va., son of Williamand Sarah (Orrick) Chilton, of "Maidstone," Westmoreland Co., Va.;(second) in 1803, John Chilton, son of Col. Charles and Elizabeth(Blackwell) Chilton, of "Herford," and had issue by first marriageonly. (See Chilton, Orrick and Blackwell lineage.)
22--4. Jane Lane, b. Oct. 3, 1772; d. in infancy.
22--5. Richard Henry, of Westmoreland Co., Va., only son andheir, b. Aug. 4, 1775; d. 1799. He was educated in England, and wasa prominent, influential citizen in affairs of Church and State; heserved as a member of the House of Delegates, 1797; d. m. Bettie Tayloe Corbin, dau. of John Tayloe Corbin.
22--6. Jane, b. Sept. 6, 1779; d. 1843; m. 11-28-1792 Thomas Chilton, of Charleston, W. Va., son of Capt. John and Letitia (Blackwell) Chilton, [p.177] of "Rock Spring;" no issue. (See Chilton and Blackwell lineage.)
