p. 175 263.  ELI LYON CORBIN (Eliakim, Peleg, Samuel, James, Clement), b. Feb. 7, 1812, at Exeter, N.Y.; m. Abigail Brainerd Taintor of Colchester, Conn., June 5, 1843; she was the dau. of Capt. Newhall Taintor and descended from Charels Taintor, who was in Conn. before 1643; the Taintors lived in Branford and Windsor, and after 1700 in Colchester, Conn.  Eli Corbin and family lived at Mc Donough, N.Y., where the children were born.  In later life they went to Oxford, N.Y., where he d. Oct. 29, 1896, and she d. Feb. 19, 1894, æ. 73.  In their memory the Oxford Public Library (shown in the illustration) was founded by their children, as indicted by a bronze tablet within, bearing the following inscription:
 
"OXFORD MEMORIAL LIBRARY.
This House with its Grounds is Dedicted for
A FREE PUBLIC LIBRARY,
As a Memorial to ELI LYON CORBIN and
ABIGAIL TAINTOR CORBIN, his Wife,
By their Children.
Established Anno Domini 1900, being the 106th year of the founding
of Oxford Academy and the Town."
