p. 54 10.  SAMUEL3 CHASE (William,2William1), of Portsmouth [Newport Co.], R.I., and of Swansea [Bristol Co., MA], born at Yarmouth [Barnstable Co., MA], died at Swansea before 4 Apr. 1758.  He married at Portsmouth, in 1699, SARAH SHERMAN, born at Portsmouth 10 Apr. 1682, daughter of Samuel & Martha (Tripp) Sherman.
     Samuel Chase and his wife moved from Portsmouth to Swansea about 1700.
  In his will, dated 19 Feb 1755 and proved 4 Apr. 1758, he mentioned his children Martha Bowen, Susannah Buffinton, Sarah Baker, and Elisha, Samuel, Eleazer, Philip, and John Chase, Samuel, Joseph, Edward, and Philip Slade, children of Edward and Phebe Slade, and his [the testator's] granddaughters, Abigail Chase and Sarah Robinson.
     Children, born at Swansea:
i.   PHEBE,4 b. 22 Jan 1699/1700; d. probably before 19 Feb. 1755; m. 6 Dec. 1720 EDWARD SLADE.  Four sons, Samuel, Joseph, Edward, and Philip Slade, were living 19 Feb. 1755.
  ii.   MARTHA, b. 24 Feb. 1702; living 19 Feb. 1755; m. (1) 2 Nov. 1720 EZEKIEL FOWLER ; m. (2) 11 May 1749 SAMUEL BOWEN.
  iii.   SUSANNAH, b. 7 Apr. 1704 ; living 19 Feb. 1755 ; m. 5 July 1726 WILLIAM BUFFINTON.
