Joseph's age is definitely "22," which would mean he was born 1827/8, before Joel & Mariah married. Secondary souces have Joseph born in 1837, which would certainly make more sense, but the 1840 census supports the earlier date. Joel is too young to be Joseph's father, but Mariah is old enough to be his mother. So, is he Mariah's child from a former marriage? Joel has several brothers whose names are unknown, but none is Joseph's age; and if Joseph were Joel's brother, he should have been listed last, after the children. Listed next to Joel's mother, Sarah (VINNERICK) CATRON.
