2He assumed on his marriage the additional surname of Borthwick, and in 1869 became incumbent of Grange, in Borrowdale, near Keswick, co. Cumberland.  He is also Hon. Chaplain to the Bishop of Aberdeen.  She third but only surviving dau. of John Borthwick, of Crookston and Borthwick Castle, co. Edinburgh, Esp., by his first wife, Anne, eldest dau. of the Rt. Hon. Robert Dundas, of Arniston, Cord Chief Baron of Scotland.
"Spinster" simply means unmarried woman; it did not then carry today's connotation of "old maid."
