Sugar Creek, Ohio

Matie Grosse and Charles Jefferies
Dear Friends,

I received Your appreciated letter and the Charles W. MIDDAUGH linage in due time. Thanks for the same. It was quite interesting to me.

I will try to answer some of your further inquaries: Mrs. Elizebeth Bollman MIDDAUGH was a native of Sugar Creek Township, Tuscarawas Co., Ohio.  Her parents were Jacob & Rosina (Gerrman) Roseanna (English) Bollman.  She descends from German parentage.  Her parents came from PA to Ohio about 1812 or 1815 when this country was nearly all wilderness in woods yet and shared the hardships and privations of frontier life.  A large part of the Sandusky Indian Tribe occupied the southern portion of this county at that time.

Lizzie's mother was Rosina KUHNS, a daughter of Leonard KUHNS, who was a native of PA but became later a neighbor to my father in this Tuscarawas Co., OH.  She and Jacob BOLLMAN became married in this county and to this union 5 children were born------ Sarah, Susan, Elizabeth, Abraham and Isaac in the order of their ages.  Later, Lizzie's mother, Rosina BOLLMAN, became married to David HARRIS and they had one son, Isiah D. HARRIS, Lizzie's half-brother. He lived at Cool City, IN, the latest I know...

With kindest regards to you all, I remain,
Wm. C. BAKER

The following was written in pencil by Grandmother Elizabeth Bollman MIDDAUGH (Mrs. C.W. MIDDAUGH) and refers to her brothers and sisters.
(signed) C. B. Jefferies...............

Jacob BOLLMAN and Rosannah KHUNS were married May 6, 1830.

Jacob BOLLMAN b. May 10, 1806
Rosannah BOLLMAN b. Dec 30, 1809

W. H. Harris (?) b. Oct 28, 1828
Sarah BOLLMAN b. Nov. 2, 1830

Susannah BOLLMAN b. Aug. 8, 1832
Elizabeth BOLLMAN b. May 10, 1835

Josiah BOLLMAN b. May 16, 1838
Abraham BOLLMAN b. Feb. 17, 1839

Isaac BOLLMAN b. June 16, 1841
Anna BOLLMAN b. May 8, 1843

Rosannah Khuns BOLLMAN married David HARRIS, Aug. 5, 1847.

Isiah HARRIS b. June 19, 1948

Mother died Oct. 23, 1886, age 76 years, 9 months, 23 days

There are discrepancies between dates here and those from other sources; I don't know which ones are correct.  It is clear (and not surprising) that Elizabeth (BOLLMAN) MIDDAUGH's contemporary account of her own eight siblings jibes better with the censuses than does William BAKER's later account of only five.  "W. H. Harris(?)" is almost certainly "William Henry Harrison" BOLLMAN.
