Aquila BLANFORD
Mary OSBORN
Anne CARRICO
Husband:  [James?] Aquila / Aquilla BLANFORD / BLANDFORD
Birth:  1765-70, Charles Co., MD
Death:  ca. May 1836, Washington Co., KY
Father:  William Arthur BLANFORD
Mother:  Joanna PIDGEON

The correct spelling of our subject's given name is Aquila.  It's a Latin word meaning "eagle," and it's found as a given name in the New Testament.  It's pronounced AK-wi-luh, not a-KWIL-luh.

Marriage-1:  5 Mar 1796, Nelson Co., KY
Wife-1:  Mary OSBORN
Birth:  ca. 1777
Death:  1803, presumably in Washington Co., KY
Father:  Thomas OSBORNE / OSBOURN / OZBOURN (c1726-c1820)
Mother:  Priscilla MILES (c1730-1849)
Marriage-2:  14 Feb 1804, Washington Co., KY
Marriage-2:  Anne / Ann CARRICO
Birth:  1778/9, MD
Death:  12 Dec 1859, presumably in Washington Co., KY
Father said to beJoseph CARRICO
Mother said to beSusanna __?__
Children with Mary OSBORN — born in Nelson or Washington Co., KY:
  1.  William BLANDFORD, b. 1798?
  2.  Thomas BLANDFORD, b. 1794/5? or 1798/9, KY
  3.  Martin BLANDFORD, b. 1800?

The children's birthyears given in secondary sources appear to be guesses.  Thomas's birthyear is given as 1796 or 1799, the latter of which may be correct because it agrees with the 1850 census.  But if Thomas's age in the 1860 census is the correct one, then Aquila had a wife prior to Mary OSBORN, which is reasonable given Aquila's age.

Children with Anne CARRICO — born in Washington Co., KY:
  4.  Joseph BLANDFORD, b. 7 Apr 1805
  5.  Theresa / Teresa "Trecy" BLANDFORD, b. 1807?; d. 21 Aug 1836, Washington Co., KY
  6.  Mary BLANDFORD, b. 1807/8 or 9 May 1809; d. 21 Sep 1889, Washington Co., KY
  7.  Sylvester Eldon BLANDFORD, b. 1810?; d. 5 Jun 1843, Washington Co., KY
  8.  (Daughter A) BLANDFORD, b. 1810-20
  9.  Susan BLANDFORD, b. 1813?
10.  Elizabeth BLANDFORD, b. 16 Jul 1814; d. 13 Nov 1890
11.  Matilda BLANDFORD, b. 22 Jul 1816; d. 22 Jan 1868, Washington Co., KY
12.  Ann BLANDFORD, b. 1820?
13.  Mildred "Milly" BLANDFORD, b. 1821/2

Most of the birthyears given in secondary sources appear to be guesses.  Sylvester is said to be born in 1811, but the 1820 and 1830 censuses show no son born after 1810.  Mildred is said to be born 1832 — when Anne would have been 53 years of age — which is biologically out of the question; based on the 1850 census, where Mildred is age 28, it's clear that "1832" must be someone's typo for 1822, blindly copied and repeated by many secondary sources.  Please, if you aren't going to dig out the primary sources, at least check your data to see if it makes sense, because a woman having a baby at age 53 does not make sense.

Blandford, William Nelson
Our subject not found, unless he is the James A. BLANDFORD in Nelson Co., KY (names were meant to read from right to left, i.e., James A. Blandford, not A. James Blandford).  Some secondary sources do call our subject, "James Aquilla" or "Aquilla James," so it may, indeed, be him (males were taxed beginning at age 16, whether married or not).  William is presumably Aquila's father.

*In the 1820 Census, the third column is age class 16-18 and the fourth column is age class 16-25; therefore, any individual in column three is duplicated in column four.  By subtracting the number in column three from the number in column four, you can create an age class "19-25."

Our subjects only had five sons in the 1820 census, so could not have six here.  Thomas was not married 'til November of 1830 and Joseph was not married 'til 1833, so we would expect them to still be in the household.  There must be others in the household who are not children of our subjects.  Listed between Edward OZBORNE and John S. CARRICOE.
