Garfield Arthur BIDDLE — Disambiguation Page |
I began this page with the intention of sorting out five more-or-less
contemporary Garfield A. BIDDLEs. As I gathered information, the
Garfield Arthur BIDDLE in New Jersey resolved rather easily due to sufficient
records and work already done, leaving the other four with few records
and some erroneous paper genealogy, the resolution of which ate up a lot
of time and effort. As I worked, it soon seemed possible, then probable,
that the other four were one man. Had they had the exact same birth
date, it would have been a snap, but they didn't; however, the dates are
within the range of error common in genealogical records, especially secondary
sources (extractions where I could not and still have not seen the original).
The most important initial clue was their unusual occupation: butter
maker!
Normally, I give one man one family group sheet with all his wives on the same page, but not only would the page be unmanagably large, I'm still not absolutely certain they are one man. |
These four appear to be one man, whose timeline is detailed
below:
1. Garfield Arthur BIDDLE, b. 7 Nov 1880, IN; m. 1904 in SD to Anna R. FORMAN; had 5 children; she remarried by 1915 2. Garfield Arthur BIDDLE, b. ?; m. 14 Sep 1915, Wright Co., MN, Elizabeth DeCHANEY; son, Richard BIDDLE, b. 1916, MN; she remarried by 1920 3. Garfield A. BIDDLE, b. 9 Nov 1889, Logansport; m. 15 Jun 1917, Albert Lea, Freeborn Co., MN, Gladys Mae FLANAGAN 4. Garfield Arthur BIDDLE, b. 2 Nov 1881; m. 26 May 1918, Holmes Co., MS, Inez WEEKS The 1889 birth year has to be wrong because Garfield would not have been listed in the 1901 Logansport City Directory at the age of 12. |
The only conflict in the timeline below is Garfield in the 1920 city directory of St. Paul, MN, unless he and Inez really did move from GA to MN to TX. Otherwise, my explanation is that the entry was a carry over from a previous year, and it actually referred to Garfield and Elizabeth. The direcotry publishers surely do not start each directory from scratch each year, so it seems reasonable that it's an entry from a prior year that should have been deleted, but wasn't. Note that Garfield and Mrs. G.A. lived separately, which is consistent with them having split up by 1918. |
This man is easily separated from the above:
5. Garfield Arthur BIDDLE, b. 1 Apr 1882, NJ; m. Charlotte B. WIBLE; son, Richard BIDDLE, b. 1908, b. NJ |

Everything I have is online at this web site. I have no further information, so please don't write asking me if I do.
On the other hand, if you feel I've made an error, please don't hesitate to notify me, but in which case, There are over 18,000 pages on this web site, and I simply don't remember every page, much less every person on every page. |
