This William BALLARD cannot be our subject as our subject was dead at the time; see also next source.

Here we have William BALLARD of Lynn (1603-1638/9)  mixed up with William BALLARD of Andover (c1617-1689).  The man admitted to the A&HA in 1636 was indeed our subject (see above), but King Philip's War was begun in 1675, at which time William BALLARD of Lynn was dead and William BALLARD of Andover was nearly 60 year old.  It seems far more likely to me that the soldier garrisoned at Chelmsford [Middlesex Co., MA] was some other, younger William BALLARD.

Thomas M. Ballard was descended from William Ballard of Lynn and Andover, Mass., born circa 1617, William lived in Lynn until 1650, when he removed to Andover.
I don't know what to make of this statement.  The writer appears to have rolled William BALLARD (c1617-1689) of Andover and William BALLARD (1603-1638) of Lynn into one person.  What astonishes me is that a writer in 1977 would make such an error and, even more so, that the editors at the NEHGR didn't catch it.  Thomas is not a son of William of Andover; I don't know if he is a son of William of Lynn.

11.  Royal R. Hinman.  1852.  A Catalogue of the Names of the Early Puritan Settlers of the Colony of Connecticut.  Press of Case, Tiffany & Co., Hartford, CT (online at GenealogyLibrary.com).  On p. 121:
BALLARD, JOHN, of Willington, 1740, d. there in 1767. Sarah, his widow, m. Mr. Kingsbury: their children were Sherabiah, eldest son, Israel, John, Daniel, Joel, Sarah and Lydia.

This name was at Lynn in 1637, in the person of William Ballard; he was freeman and member of the ar. co. in 1638; he removed to Andover, and had sons, Joseph, William and John, who settled at Andover. Nathaniel, of Lynn, 1650. (Farmer.)

The writer is confusing William BALLARD of Lynn (1602/3-1638) with William BALLARD of Andover (c1616-1689).  Siblings Joseph, William, and John are sons of William of Andover.  Nathaniel is son of William of Lynn.

12.  Anon.  1900.  The California Register.  Vol. I, No. 1.  California Genealogical Society, San Francisco, CA (online at GenealogyLibrary.com).  On p. 12, refering to Capt. Timothy PEARL (1723-1789), who married Dinah HOLT, a descendant of Henry HOLT...
The wife of Henry Holt was Sarah, daughter of William Ballard, who came with Nicholas Holt in the ship James, in 1635.
The William BALLARD (1603-1639) who sailed on the James in 1635 is "William BALLARD of Lynn," who was not the father of Sarah BALLARD, wife of Henry HOLT.  The father of Sarah BALLARD, wife of Henry HOLT, is William BALLARD (c1617-1689) of Andover.

13.  Esek S. Ballord.  1907.  Some of the Descendants of Zacheus Ballord, a private in the Revolutionary War; also in the last French and Indian War.  Press of David Clapp & Son, Boston.
Gives descent of William BALLARD of Lynn from William BALLARD of Sanford Priors, Warwickshire, England.  I have no idea whether this genealogy is accurate.
