When I fill in the forms for my web pages, I abbreviate "yes" as Y; "no" or "none" or "nil" as N; "good" as G; and "fair," with regard to complexion, as F.  I also abbreviate colors (e.g., brown as brn, black as blk, grey as gry, blue as blu, etc.).
