If it's correct that both George and Barbara were born before 1765, as
it shows here, then their marriage in 1791 was a late first marriage for
both of them. It was very unusual for a Pennsylvanian to have a slave,
which makes me wonder if our subject didn't come to Pennsylvania from a
southern state (viz., Maryland or Virginia).

While living in this vicinity Stroop was sheriff of Cumberland County.
When the county was formed his heirs were assessed with over 1,300 acres

That the administrators of GEORGE STROOP, dec., JACOB
STROOP and JOHN SHUMAN, are hereby authorized to execute a deed,
for four lots of ground in the town of Landisburg, Perry county, #1, 2,
23, and 24, with their tenements and appurtenances, to the administrators
of JOHN HIPPLE, in trust for the use the heirs, as soon as the administrators
of John Hipple shall have paid to Jacob Stroop and John
Shuman the balance of the purchase money. |
