QUESTION:  is this man the same as Jacob STROOP, who simply married a second time?

1772 I.  Emigrants recorded in MP MP records the names of the heads of the emigrating parties followed by the nubmer of the members of which each party cosists in figures, the first denoting men, the second women and the third children.  A few times also the father's name is added and usually 'unmarried' in case of the single persons.  Besides, the tax and manumission dues paid, or the release from their payment, are recorded as in 1771.  The amount of the proper ty on which the tax was levied and all other items have been taken from other sources...

Hans Jacob, their child, bapt.......Nov. 3, 1771    Was induced to emigrate by a letter from a cousin of his wife in Maryland received some weeks ago in which the latter offered his assistance to relatives who felt like undertaking the journey.  In 1806 a letter from Mecklenburg Co. [N.C.?] announced his death (GAV 21, 376).

The fact that the letter was dated 1806 doesn't necessarily mean Johannes died in 1806; the letter may have been written years later and for a reason other then simply announcing Johannes's death.  I wish the author had been less cryptic.  There is also a Mecklenburg County in Virginia, but apparently the writer had some reason to believe it was the one in North Carolina.
