| John Peter STROUP
Maria Magdalena WENRICH |
| NOTICE: two "on paper" descendants
of our subject are participating in the STRAUB
Y-chromosome DNA Surname Project. They are a genetic mis-match,
and it appears that each of them has an NPE in his lineage: one because
he has a
characteristically Irish haplotype, the other because he is a high-level
match with the NEWHOUSE family, one of whom owned land in Wythe County
adjacent to our subject. As it stands, we do not appear to have yet
tested a "real" descendant of John Peter. If you are a male STROUP
who is a patrilineal descendant of John Peter, please join the project
and be tested to help determine who are the real descendants of John Peter
STROUP!
UPDATE: a free DNA test is being offered to a patrilineal descendant of our subject who descends from one of these three sons: George, Peter, or John (i.e., not Peter or Jacob). Please contact the project admin for details. |
| Husband: John Peter STROUP / STRAUP / STROUPE
Birth: 1760-65, VA Death: 30 Jun 1857 |
| Marriage: 5 Mar 1788, Montgomery Co., VA |
| Wife: Maria Magdalena / Mary Magdalene "Molly" WENRICH / VENRICK
/ WENNERICH / VENERICK / WINNERICK
Birth: 1765-70, PA Death: aft. 1850 census Father: Michael WENRICH Mother: Elizabeth MICHAEL |
| Children — born in Wythe Co., VA: |
| 1. Barbara
STROUP, b. 1788-90
2. Peter STROUP, b. 1793/4 3. John STROUP, b. 1794/5 4. Mary Ann STROUP, b. 1796/7 5. (Daughter A) STROUP, b. 1794-1800 — is she Mary Magdalene STROUP? 6. Jacob STROUP, b. 1794-1800 7. Elizabeth STROUP, b. ca. 1800 8. George STROUP, b. 1800 9. Margaret "Peggy" STROUP, b. 1806-10 10. Susan STROUP, b. 1809/10 • Barbara appears to have inflated her age as she became elderly, and
a claim in her bio of being 106 years old at death cannot possibly be true,
at least not unless John had a prior wife because, if she were that old,
she would have been born before our subjects married in 1788.
