The William STROOPE in Frederick County is too young to be our subject,
so despite the spelling here, I think this must be our subject, especially
as two of his children are on page 190 and, despite their age, the other
children do not show up as married heads-of-households, anywhere.
Also, the fact that William left land in Shenandoah County to his heirs
in 1816-18 clearly shows he was living in Shenandoah County, not Frederick
County.

| *In the 1820 Census, the third column is
age class 16-18 and the fourth column is age class 16-25; therefore, any
individual in column three is duplicated in column four. By subtracting
the number in column three from the number in column four, you can create
an age class "19-25." |
George is old enough to be married, so the young female may be his wife,
but Anna's daughter, Catharine, didn't marry until 1825, so the young female
is probably his sister. Listed next to Anna's son, Henry STROOP.

I suspect most, if not all, of the locations are guesses.
10. Archives of the Mock Family Mailing List (online at
RootsWeb.com), where a post by James P. Mock includes a family group sheet
of our subjects, including this excerpt from his sources:
In a Page Co., VA deed (@4) dated Jun 1833 Henry W. Mauck sold
land on the drains of Hawksbill Creek that he had inherited from his mother
Sally
Stroup [MAUK], who had inherited the
land from her father William Stroup. Sally had received this
land in a Shenandoah Co., VA deed dated Oct 1818 (@5) where the land of
William
Stroop dec'd that had been left to his wife Mary, was divided
amongst his heirs. This deed describes Sally's share of this land
as being 35 acres. The land was located
near the banks of the Hawksbill Creek.
In a Shenandoah Co. deed dated 7 Jul 1828 (@6) David sold land and
put up personal property as collateral, for a debt that he owed.
The deed does not describe the land, but states that David's wife Sally
was an heir of her father William Stroop. In another Shenandoah
Co. deed dated 7 Nov 1828 David and Sally purchased her sibling's (Henry
Stroop and wife Magdalene, George Stroop and wife Elisabeth,
Jonathan
Moore and wife Catharine Stroop, Jacob Stroop and wife
Anna,
George
Housman and wife Elisabeth Stroop, David Houseman and
wife Mary Stroop) share of William Stroop's land (@7). |
