10.  Charles A. Fisher.  1938.  Snyder County Pioneers.  Self-published, Selinsgrove, PA (reprinted 1991 by Genealogical Publ. Co., Baltimore, MD).  On p. 90:

JOHN NICHOLAS STRAUSSER (also Strawser, Strauser, Strouser, Strousser, Strosser, etc.) was commonly called "Honnickle."  He was assessed in Penn Township from an early date, and in 1796 he was assessed in Mahantango Township and his occupation stated as jockey.  It is supposed that he was born about 1754 and died in 1814.  The place of his burial is supposed to be the pioneer cemetery opposite the lower Herrold schoolhouse in Union Township.  He served in Captain Ritter's Company of the Berks County Militia in 1780.

p. 52	THE NEW BETHEL CHURCH, OF ALBANY TOWNSHIP, BERKS COUNTY.
p. 53	Tradition places the time of the first Church at about 1754 and known as the "Corner Church."  The site is believed to be that of a former village of the Delaware Indians.  The village being in an angle and was perhaps visited by one of the early missionaries.  The first white settlers located here in about 1730 and were closely connected with the "Allemengel."  The first Church was located here, doubtless because it is about the geographical center of the Township, and a place easily reached from all parts of the "Ontelaunee region."  The Rev. O.S. Scherer is authority for the statement that the first ground for a Church was given by John Nicholas Strausser on March 21, 1761, and that the grant specified that such Church was "to be a Lutheran and Reformed Church forever."  The cornerstone was laid Nov. 6, 1761.  The cost was $784.40, which amount would indicate quite an edifice for that time and would also lead to the conclusion that a perhaps less imposing structure might have been used previously.  Captain Ferdinand Ritter, of Revolutionary
p. 54	record, was a charter member and the Berks County descendants of Daniel Boucher have always told that he was one of the builders.

This item obviously refers not to our subject, but to his father.  It does appear that this Captain RITTER may be the one under whom our subject served.
