Based on the records, Hiram's age varies wildly, but I have to believe that the earliest records, specifically, his ages in the 1850 and 1860 censuses (8 and 18, respectively) are most likely to be the correct ones — and these agree with his tombstone. Even though the later censuses place his age earlier, in the 1830s, these ages cannot be correct because he does not show up, at all, in his father's 1840 census record.

It's conceivable that the Frank born in 1874/5 died bet. June and Sept. in 1880 and that there was another Frank born in Sep 1880, as given in the 1900 Census. But there is a problem with that scenario: the birthdates of Mary (Apr 1880) and Franklin (Sep 1880) could not then both be correct.
