can't find, and with given names like Gottleib and Elmira, they should
be easy to find. I even did pages-by-page searches of Stoystown,
Quemahoning Twp., and Paint Twp. I can't find John MAUCK/MOCK, either.
Jacob's parents were in Paint Twp. in the 1850 and 1860 census, and I can't
find them in 1870, either. Sounds like the enumerator missed an area
or pages are missing.

The page is so faded I can barely read it, either at Ancestry.com or at
Genealogy.com — nor apparently could the indexer(s) because no one in the
family is indexed. The Farm Schedule might at least prove this is
Gottlieb STRAUB. John & Christina (STRAUB) KOCHER not found or
indexed, but many households in Somerset County are totally unreadable,
so they could be here.

Charles Gottlieb Straub died suddenly at his home at Stoyestown
at 3:30 o'clock yesterday morning of heart failure.
Mr. Straub was born in Germany July 26, 1844. The greater
part of his life was spent in Somerset County. In his early youth
he and his parents came to America and settled at the present site of Windber,
where he followed the tanners' trade till the spring of 1890, when he located
on a farm about one and one-half miles west of Stoyestown, where he lived
and reared his family of 11 children. He later sold his farm and
moved to Stoyestown, where he lived a retired life since January 1904.
Mr. Straub was a well-known and respected citizen and the community very
much mourns his loss. He is survived by his widow and the following
children: A. H. Straub and Mrs. Emma Bantley, of Scalp Level;
Mrs.
G. L. Dobson and Mrs. Thomas Stokem, of Stoyestown;
Mrs.
J. G. Kocher, Jacob and Charles G. Straub of Johnstown;
H.
W. Straub, of Cleveland, O.; Dr. G. L. Straub, of Welch, W.
Va.; Dr. Theodore Straub, of Somerset, and R. R. Straub of
Boswell. The funeral will be held in the Lutheran Church at Stoyestown,
at 10 a. m. Friday, with interment in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Stoyestown. |
