Thomas SHERWOOD
?Mary WHEELER?
Alice SEABROOK
Mary FITCH
WARNING:  There is a great deal about this family group sheet that does not "add up."
Husband:  Thomas SHERWOOD
Birth:  1586
Death:  21 Jul 1655, Stratford, Fairfield Co., CT
Disposition:  buried Fairfield, Fairfield Co., CT
Other spouse:  some sources say he married first Mary WHEELER
Occupation:  carpenter
Father:  Thomas SHERWOOD (1548-1632)
or (sources differ)
Father:  Esdras SHERWOOD
Mother:  Dorcas __?__

Thomas is said to have been born in Ipswich, co. Suffolk, England, but just because he disembarked from Ipswich doesn't mean he was born there or even lived there.

Marriage-1:  21 Oct 1604, England
Wife-1:  Alice SEABROOK
Marriage-2:  said to be 1641, but was she really only 12/13 yrs old when she married?  Record below says she was 47 yrs old when she married, but then it would have been unusual (biologically impossible) for her to have had six more children.  And if she was 47 when she married Thomas, where were the children from her previous marriage(s)?  And how could she have then had a child with John Banks, when well into her 50s?  Are two different Mary FITCHes being confused?

SHERWOOD--BRADFORD (ante, p. 84).--It was Joseph Bradford, son of Maj. William Bradford, and grandson of Gov. William, who married a Sherwood.  He married Mary (Sherwwod) Fitch, widow of Capt. Daniel Fitch, of New London, Conn., about 1716.  John Bradford, their son, was born May 20, 1717.  Mary (S.) (Fitch) Bradford died Oct. 7, 1717.  Daniel Fitch, her son by Capt. Daniel, married Sarah Sherwood.  John Bradford, her son by Joseph, married Esther Sherwood.

The town clerk of New London says no other Sherwoods appear on record at that time, and thinks Mary, Sharah and Esther to be from Fairfield, Conn.  Fairfield records mention "Mary Bradford, granddaughter of Thomas Sherwood," the emigrant of that name.

I also have two Sarahs, two Mary and one Esther, at Fairfield at this date, whose marriages I have not placed.

Can any one help me out?  Who were Mary, Sarah and Esther?

FITCH--BRADFORD--SHERWOOD (REG. xxxviii, 84, 344).--Capt. Matthew2 Sherwood (Thos.1) of Stratfield (now Bridgeport, Ct.), in his will, 14th April, 1713, mentions his daughter Mary Fitch.  His widow, in her will (1726) mentions her daughter Mary Bradford.  This seems to settle the parentage of this Mary3 S.

Thomas Fitch, of Norwalk, will May 29, 1704, mentions "my dau. Mary, now the wife of Capt. Matthew Sherwood."  It seems from this that not only the father married a Mary Fitch, but the daughter Mary married a Fitch (Capt. Daniel, son Rev. James).  As seen above, her second husband was Joseph3 Bradford (William,2 William1).
