2a.  1840 Census Index/Images (online at Ancestry.com):  can't find, and I really looked, including a page-by-page search of Daviess Co., IN.  There is a Matthew RANEY in Barr Twp., who fits the profile perfectly.  Could our subject's name have been Matthew Austin RANEY?

The ditto marks after George's surname and Rose's surname line up with those from the prior record, indicating surname "Donahue," which is, of course, absurd.  Rose is George's daughter.  The ditto marks for George Jr. are an outright error because this is our subject's son, George CARRICO, and his first wife, Elizabeth (BURRIS).  Back then, "insane," could mean senile or retarded, not just "psychotic."

7.  LDS.  Family Search: Internet Genealogy Service: Pedigree Resource File (index to CDs, online at FamilySearch.org).  A file here erroneously has Austin dying in Daviess Co., KY.  It also has Rose dying in 1840 and, worse yet, the daughter of "Acquilla" CARRICO & Eleanor PEAK.  I wish they would include email addresses for the submitters.  No less than seven files containing these errors are in the database, contributed by two different individuals.
