Gurdon HUNTINGTON
Spouse: Mary BROWN
Marriage: 19 Dec 1802, <windham>, Windham, Connecticut
Source: LDS, sealings for the dead... (i.e., patron submission) |
While this record looks promising, there is a Gurdon HUNTINGTON in the
1820 and 1830 censuses of Windham Co., CT, so he would appear to be a different
Gurdon. Also, Polly was a bit young to have married in 1802.
2. Census Index: U.S. Selected Counties, 1800 (Broderbund
CD-312): not found. There were no HUNTINGTONs in Ontario Co.,
NY (n.b., Genesee Co. was formed from Ontario Co. in 1802/3, then
Niagara Co. was formed from Genesee Co. in 1808).
3a. Census Index: U.S. Selected Counties, 1810 (Broderbund

regarding use of these CDs. In this case, Gurdon's data have undergone
what's called, in database parlance, a "frame shift." The data are
shifted one digit to the left of where they should be. See next

| *In the 1820 Census, the third column is
age class 16-18 and the fourth column is age class 16-25; therefore, any
individual in column three is duplicated in column four. By subtracting
the number in column three from the number in column four, you can create
an age class "19-25." |
The two males age 19-25 are too old to be their sons; they could be hired
help, boarders, or kin.

The older teenage girl was not in the household in 1830, so either the census-taker
made a mistake (by missing her in 1830) or she is not their daughter.
Also in the county: son, Joshua
HUNTINGTON, and son-in-law, Daniel
HOLT, whose wife if their daughter, Sarah.

There's not a lot of logic to how this record is organized. Certainly,
Gurdon is their son and, presumably, George and Morris are also their children.
Abigail's position in the record indicates she is not their daughter, and
her absence from the household in 1840 strengthens that conclusion.
Sally would appear to be Gurdon Jr.'s wife, and Frances and Henry their
children. Charles BLOOMER is likely a hired hand or boarder, though
he could be kin. "F" presumably means "farmer." The cells were
blank for the birthplaces of Frances, Henry, and Abigail.

This could be our subject, but there were two Gurdon HUNTINGTON's the right
