John's grandfather may have been the immigrant, but John and his father were born in PA.  It is common for people to underestimate the number of generations between themselves and their immigrant ancestor.  My grandfather believed his grandfather was the immigrant from Germany, but it was his grandfather's grandfather who was the immigrant.

Lebanon Co. was formed from Dauphin Co., in 1813, which was formed from Lancaster in 1785. Centre Co. was formed in 1800 from Northumberland, Mifflin, Huntingdon, and Lycoming Cos. Aaronsburg was in Northumberland Co. before 1800, in Cumberland Co. before 1771,  and in Lancaster Co. before 1750.

John's parents lived in Aaronsburg.
