(Holt Gen.)  He d. at Detroit, Michigan, about 1856; she d. about 1864.    A carpenter.  His grand-nephew, Professor B. he removed with his father in about 1836 from Lockport, New York, to Unadilla, Michigan; that he served in the Mexican war and lost a leg in action.  At the time of his marriage he was of Hastings, Michigan. 'His widow m. (2) a Mr. Diamond.' Children: Martha, b. 1838... Samuel Holt, b. 17 May 1841... Nehemiah is said to have died in New York, and even this author makes no mention of Nehemiah leaving New York under Nehemiah's own entry.  At the time of his marriage, Samuel Lucas was almost certainly "of New York," not Michigan.  In the 1830 Census, Philancia was living in Somerset, Niagara Co., NY, with her mother, Abigail (CHENEY) HOLT GALUSHA, and step-father, Daniel GALUSHA.  Martha testified in her application for a widow's pension that she was born in 1834 in Somerset, NY.  It seems highly likely that Philancia and Samuel were married, if not in Somerset, then at least in Niagara Co., and certainly in NY.   Samuel probably did move from Lockport, Niagara Co., NY, in 1836, but it was in the company of his wife and daughter, not his father.  The probable reason for the error of Martha's birthdate and place (as 1838 in MI, instead of 1834 in NY) was such that someone could not otherwise reconcile Samuel being "of Michigan" when he supposedly married.  Prof. B. Smith HOPKINS is son of Loren, son of Philander, brother of Samuel Lucas.
